Navigate Bathrooms are true believers in the necessity for keeping up with bathroom trends and product advancements from around the world. This is a never-ending mission for Navigate Bathrooms and something that is often overlooked by lesser designers. Furthermore, Navigate Bathrooms knows how important it is to make sure your new bathroom renovation will last for years to come. That doesn’t just mean ensuring that the products and fixtures are of good quality, it means making sure your modern bathroom design won’t date in the years to come.

Read on to learn about the design and product trends which we believe are going to take your bathroom renovation to the next level of luxury.

Heated Flooring

Is there anything worse than waking up in winter and being hit by a cold bathroom floor? We don’t think so, that’s why heated flooring is a necessity in all of our luxury bathroom renovations in Perth. Heated bathroom floors will not only make the bathroom more comfortable and attractive in the cold mornings, but it will also make the heating within the rest of your home more efficient. Heated flooring can be built with either an electric or hydronic systems. Once you experience this sort of bathroom luxury, it’ll be hard to resist adding it into your renovation.

Natural Flooring

Natural materials are becoming more popular for a high-end look to bathroom flooring. Use of marble, limestone or granite are no longer confined to a vanity countertop. Using a natural material on the flooring adds texture to a sometimes-stale room. These materials can be sealed for a glossy look or left in their natural state to add texture against a sleek bathroom.

Lighting

Bathroom lighting can make a huge impact in the feel and look of your bathroom design. Using high quality lighting and expert positioning, the lighting can transform the most basic of bathrooms. Quality bathroom lighting can also make or break the functionality of the bathroom. Additionally, well designed lighting bathroom will have the power to accommodate all activities which the user might need. Think ensuring there are no shadows cast on the face when someone is applying make-up at the vanity mirror, making sure the shower area is lit up enough that the user won’t fall over. Ensuring the lights can be dimmed down when called for is also an absolute must for added relaxation.

Lighting that produces shadows or glare will create an unrelaxing environment which is the exact opposite of what you envision when designing your bathroom renovation! Even lighting placement is usually more aesthetically pleasing however your bathroom design will ultimately dictate where you need to place your lights. Layered lighting, meaning multiple types of lights, can best ensure that the functionality of the bathroom is meet for all family members different uses.

Additionally, having a backlit vanity mirror can help users apply makeup with the most appropriate lighting making the bathroom even more functional.

Terrazzo Tiles

Terrazzo tiles are certainly having a moment right now. These beautiful tiles are made from a mix of marble, quartz, granite, glass, and many other materials and have been used in bathrooms all over the world for centuries has currently been popularised by Australian home and business owners. This resurgence in popularity is likely due to their unique looks and versatility when it comes to bathroom designs.

When it comes to updating the look of your bathroom, terrazzo tiles are a great option. They come in both classic white and more colourful options, making them perfect for any design style. Plus, they’re versatile and can be used in multiple interior design styles and many rooms of your home.

Coloured Vanities

Gone are the days that bathroom cabinetry is a standard white. Being brave and choosing to highlight your cabinetry can really transform your bathroom from ok to wow. Pastel greens, pinks and blues are featuring heavily in well-designed custom bathroom renovations, turning bathrooms into a standout room like never before. Colours can be used in the countertop or on the face of the cabinetry to help you add a feature colour to your bathroom.

No More Stainless Steel

One trend which has been on the march for a while now, is the black or brass bathroom and laundry fixtures. Rather than trying to minimise the look of your fixtures, try to draw them to the eye with contrast colours, such as matte black tap against a gloss white tile. This can really highlight the design integrity of your bathroom. Furthermore, you won’t be constantly polishing stainless steel taps every time you use them to remove fingerprints, parents rejoice!

Smart Technology

The use of smart technology in bathrooms is becoming more and more popular. This includes features such as smart toilets that can be operated with a remote control, motion sensors that will turn on or dim lights and can activate a tap faucet with the swish of a hand. Like Bluetooth speakers, many light fixtures can be controlled with a mobile phone app which means you can change the lighting colour to a relaxing hue as you slip into your bath with your favourite stress reducing music playing.

Natural elements

Natural materials, such as woods, stones, and bamboo, are becoming increasingly popular in bathroom design. Natural materials can give a bathroom cozy and organic feeling. Natural elements like wood, stone, and brick are frequently used in rustic bathroom designs, which also place a focus on comforting hues. An above counter basin, exposed rafters, and reclaimed wood accents are features which tend to flow together nicely to create a rustic yet polished feel.

You can add to these touches by adding soap dispensers or towel rail in the same material to help your bathroom’s design flow.

Large format tiles

Large format tiles, which are tiles that are larger than the traditional 12×12 standard size, have been growing in popularity. They create a more modern and streamlined look and can also make a small bathroom appear much larger than it actually is.

Large format tiles can be one or two huge tiles placed together to form a wall. This can work really well in the shower as a feature of the room or the floor can be made into one large tile with a drain hole in it. Large tiles also mean fewer joins and grout which as a result will collect less dirt, absorb less water, and means less likelihood of mould forming. Less grout cleaning = win!

Matte finishes

In recent years, matte finishes have grown in popularity, a trend which we don’t see going away any time soon. Bathroom designs with matte finishes have a chic, modern appearance. You can use matte finishings on your tiles, your cabinets or even your fixtures in a range of colours.

Most popular right now in black and brass fixtures, matte finishes also have the added bonus of not getting finger smudges from little fingers with require cleaning more often to look good.

Bonus Trend: Laundries that match!

When you renovate areas of your house separately it can lead variations in the styling of your interior design. Ideally, you want your property to flow from one room to the next. By renovating your laundry at the same time as your bathroom you are able to use the same tiles and fixtures etc. in both, ensuring the rooms flow and avoid things having been discontinued or out of stock.

More importantly, there can be cost savings to renovating your bathroom and laundry at the same time. Having your trades already in your house means there are no extra call out fees and they can work on one room when the other might be drying or too full. Additionally, you’re able to order all of your products at once which can mean a discount when buying in bulk.
